DIY Jewelry Display with Lulu Frost

Yesterday, I stopped by the Lulu Frost studio for an exciting DIY session with the lovely Lisa Salzer and her crafty team. We had been chatting for weeks about finding creative ways to display and store jewelry – a problem we all seemed to struggle with. So after sorting through Lisa’s wide ranging collection of antique hardware, we were inspired to find a way to show off not only her found treasures but also our favorite Lulu Frost jewels.

You’ll need:

a large picture frame

a piece of wood cut to size

water based wood stain (optional)

gold spray paint (optional)

4 mending braces

assorted antique and new hardware (knobs, drawer pulls, hooks)

assorted screws and nails

bolt cutter

screwdriver

drill

DIY Heart Friendship Bracelet

As the month of love approaches, we thought we’d combine friendship and hearts into one Valentine’s Day themed tutorial: a heart patterned friendship bracelet! Using some candy-colored embroidery floss and your familiarity with the chevron friendship bracelet, you’ll be able to whip up one of these tokens of love in a heartbeat.

You’ll need:

2 colors of embroidery floss

DIY Feather Hat

After jewelry, hats are my favorite accessory. Straw, fedoras, caps, floppies, visors, cowboy, beanies, ushankas - you name it, I dig it. And just like jewelry, le chapeaux has the ability to relieve just about any wardrobe slump. This week, I’ll show you how to transform a simple floppy hat into something similar to Eugenia Kim‘s fabulous feather trimmed version in under 15 minutes. It’s that easy. Honestly.

You’ll need:

a felt fedora or wide brimmed floppy hat

a 12-16″ trimmed ostrich feather

glue gun

tweezers or pliers

DIY Macrame Rhinestone Bracelet

I’ve got a problem. I can’t walk out of a fabric store without at least purchasing a handful irresistible notions: fancy rhinestone buttons, delicate lace trim, multi-colored embroidery floss . . . I can go on. So what to do with all the random, yet wonderfully sparkly, buttons I seem to have collected over time?! DIY a handful of bracelets, of course. Inspired by Shourouk‘s crystal wristlets, I’ll show you how I made my own version with the trusty ol’ macrame technique.

You’ll need:

3 yards of 0.8mm Chinese knotting cord

1 large rhinestone button

1 small rhinestone button

embroidery needle

tape

DIY Shell Earrings

The chilly climate has hardly deterred me from incorporating a bit of tropical flair into my winter wardrobe. Inspired by Kelly Wearstler‘s metallic shell earrings from her upcoming spring collection, I’ll show you how to transform a couple of simple shells into a pair of beachy stunners. Vamos a la playa!

DIY Holiday Gift Wrap

Presents are purchased, gifts are DIY’d, and the only thing left to do is to wrap, wrap, wrap. Beautiful wrapping can be just as special as the gift itself – after all, it sets the deserved anticipation for the wonderful surprise waiting inside, doesn’t it? Today I’ll be showing you how I like to incorporate natural, organic elements atop of brown paper packages tied up with string. Because these are a few of my favorite things . . .
