Intimacy Under The Wires

Posted by on

When I lived in Spain, I used to love doing laundry for the sole reason of getting to hang my clothes out to dry. Although it took awhile to get used to how differently clothes felt after being air dried, there was something undeniably romantic about it. This project named Intimacy under the Wires first started in Tel Aviv’s Jaffa neighborhood and has since been an ongoing project bringing Israeli photographer Sivan Askayo to Madrid, Barcelona, London, Florence, Venice, and Buenos Aires. I absolutely adore how these images capture the fluidity and movement of the clothes in the wind.

I love these – there is something so artistic and magical about the view up. It changes something so mundane as images of laundry (which we have all seen) and makes them artistic and abstract. Nice to have a different view!
    Thanks for the inspiration!

While the photos are beautiful, I have to say that’s definitely on my top10 pet peeves list about living in Spain. Oh, to have a dryer again! It might be romantic, but the reality of hanging the laundry year in and year out is less glamorous, I swear it.

Bueno, en España y sobretodo en pueblos más pequeños sí que suelen tender la ropa fuera , para secarla al aire libre….las secadoras se utilizan más cuando llueve……

Well in Spain, especially in small towns where there is no so much pollution people use to hang out clothes The dryers are used when it rains

There really is something romantic about hanging clothes on a line to dry. I just moved to England and am weirdly excited that I have the ability to use a whirly gig and line dry my clothes whenever the weather is good.

That’s very cool! I used to hang out my clothes in Barcelona and we do it at the beach, there is something undeniably fresh about that air dryed crispness

I live in Portugal and also dry my clothes outside…but now I have got to dry them inside next to the wood heater because winter has started.
