DIY Star Sandals

Star light, star bright . . . I wish I may, I wish I might. The moment I spottedΒ Giuseppe Zanotti‘s suede caged sandals with gold stars, I had to have them. Then I saw the price tag and well, perhaps DIYing them was a more reasonable option. The biggest hurdle was tracking down large enough stars – which actually proved pretty difficult to find. So now that I’ve done all the hard work for you, I hope you give this one a try!

You’ll need:

starheels2

Start by folding the prongs into the backside of the stars so that they lay flat.

starheels3

Squeeze a generous dollop of E600 into the backside of the stars. Press them into the stiffened black felt. It’s okay if some glue seeps out the sides since it will be cut out later.

starheels4

Allow the glue to dry overnight and then using fabric shears, cut the stars out of the felt. This will make the stars easy to attach to the shoes – plus, they provide padding so the stars don’t scratch the feet!

starheels5

Use a toothpick to apply a thin layer of glue. Attach the larger stars to the straps of the shoe.

starheels6

Alternate the smaller stars between the larger ones. Continue adding stars around the shoes and mirror the pattern with the other shoe.

starheels7

Dry overnight. And yes, the stars really do stay on the shoes with E6000 glue!

starheels8

Strap on your new starry sandals!

  31. I bought some star studs similar to these a while back, just thinking they were awesome, but with no idea what to use them for. This is a great idea! I was worried the stars would look tacky, but using multiple sizes really keeps it from looking cheap. Great job πŸ™‚
