Forever Crushing On: Lockets

One of my most prized possessions is a solid 18k heart locket that I had engraved with three little stars over 10 years ago. There was a period, several years ago, when I had it stored away in a jewelry box, nearly forgotten about. That was, until I became a mom. Today, the locket holds photos of my two babies and has taken on immense sentimental value. It's a piece I wear frequently and never travel without. Although I bought it new, I know that it will eventually become a family heirloom - a treasured memento of the past that will be passed down to future generations. Today, I'm sharing some of my favorite locket collectors and designers . . . you know, a little something for everyone.

ANTIQUE

Rhode Island based Luna & Stella curates the most stunning collection of antique lockets, mostly from the Victorian Era and dating as far back as 1880. Each piece is unique and one of a kind, so it's definitely worth checking back to find that piece that speaks to you most. Luna & Stella is also offering a new feature where customers can send in their own photos, which they will scale, print and insert into a locket of choice. So sweet! Be sure to also check out some of my favorite treasure hunters - they'll occasionally have an extraordinary antique heirloom in their repertoire!

VINTAGE INSPIRED

Ariel Gordon recently collaborated with blogger Taylor Sterling to design a capsule locket collection inspired by their mutual love of antique and vintage jewelry. Each of the solid 14k gold Lumière lockets are embellished with scallops, modeled off of vintage engine-turned jewelry, and hand engraved with a personalized message, name or monogram. They're incredibly sweet and feminine, while still beautifully understated and very, very layerable.

MODERN

Designer Monica Rich Kosann has been designing her signature 18k gold and sterling silver lockets for over a decade, with the belief that every woman has a story to tell. Her lockets are designed down to the finest detail, with every moving part and hinge meant to last a lifetime - if not, multiple generations. I'm loving her latest collection, with gold lockets suspended on edgy, black steel chains.

I’m definitely a fan of the vintage inspired lockets, although the modern ones do look stylish as well. I just love the idea of carrying the photo of a loved one around your neck!

Thank you so much for this story. I have been following your beautifully captured journey for several years. Today it has led me to Luna & Stella where I found the most perfect gift for my difficult to shop for husband. I noted the story on my order. Very best regards, Isabel

I love lockets and I’d love to have an antique one because I love Victorian Era jewelry (I even like mourning jewelry) but I also like new, minimalist ones like those by Monica Rich Kosann, I like the black chains.
