Brother Vellies

Warning: you’re about to fall in love with Brother Vellies. The footwear line, formerly known as Schier Shoes, started in 1935 with a collection of kudu leather desert boots, which originated in Africa as far back as the 1600s and are commonly known as vellies. Since making it’s mark on the fashion scene with a capsule collection with Opening Ceremony a few years ago, creative director Aurora James has rebranded the label and expanded the collection to include modern versions of ancestral inspired styles like braided leather wrap sandals with horse hair tassels, denim Moroccan babouche slippers and springbok fur slides. She continues to travel to South Africa, Namibia, Kenya, Nigeria, and Morocco, working closely with local artisans to ensure the shoes are made with sustainable materials and practices. I’ve been dreaming of owning a pair . . . just can’t decide on which one to spoil myself with! And the mini dessert boots for ‘lil tots? Adorable.
