In his newest series The American _tier, artist Shawn Huckins explores 19th century American paintings in context of 21st century slang. After replicating paintings by hand, he superimposes text-messaging pop culture jargon with white paint – no photoshop involved here! The juxtaposition of old and new begs the question: what would our founding fathers think of present day lexicons!?

Lol these are pretty funny
“twerking lik a bosss” Awesome!!
The only thing I appreciate about these is the effort of making painted replicas.
Other than that, I feel that the paintings were tainted and somehow violated. I really find it disturbing, and not in a disturbing art kind of way, but just unpleasant and insulting.
I appreciate that he is painting the backgrounds; however, he is ripping off Wayne White. http://www.waynewhiteart.com
These are hilarious!
Yes, they are insulting but I think these paintings make an interesting commentary on history, contemporary culture, and even nostalgia.
