Desert Indoors

Kolmanskop, a town in the Namib desert in southern Namibia, was once a rich diamond mining village. Within a 40 year span the town lived, flourished and then died. Richer diamond deposits were discovered further south, operations were moved, nature took its course and the desert sands reclaimed their space. Thank you, Álvaro Sánchez-Montañés, for capturing these hauntingly beautiful images!

I love this place and I would love to visit it some day.

I believe Vogue UK also shot there for the May issue with Agyness Deyn. Definitely worth checking out!

These pictures are amazing but evoke sadness. Both nature and a place of inhabitance were stripped of what made them beautiful for greed and power. I can’t just look at these and think “Oh what a perfect place to shoot fashion” unless there was the message of the exploitation of the country. Sorry to be Debbie Downer
