Just a year ago, Yosuzi Sylvester set out on a journey to Venezuela’s Guajira desert to explore her ancestral Guajiro heritage. She and her mother were introduced to local craftsmen who hand weave hats called ‘woma’ – and that was the moment the Yosuzi hat was born. Each hat, which takes eight hours to weave, is made of a palm straw native to Venezuela, using a diagonal weaving technique and incorporating symbols which are unique to the Guajiro tribe. Each piece, with it’s intricate patterns, is accentuated with a vibrant set of pom poms or colorful braided hat band. I mean, what’s not to love?! Also, for each hat that is purchased, a portion of sales goes towards CEPIN, a non-profit organization to the health and education of the Guajiro Indian children. So today, we’re going to bright up your winter blues with a Yosuzi hat of your choice! Simply leave a comment below, check out Yosuzi’s radiant Instagram account, and a winner will be randomly selected on Friday, December 11th. Good luck! ***CONTEST IS NOW CLOSED.
