Honestly WTF

Siem Reap, Cambodia

Posted by on

My week long sojourn in Southeast Asia began with 4 exceptional days in Siem Reap, Cambodia. After a quick introduction to the tuk tuk, the preferred method of transport, our explorations of this amazing UNESCO World Heritage site began: waking up at 5am to watch the sun rise over the magnificent Khmer temple of Angkor Wat, climbing up Angkor Thom and other temple ruins dating as far back as the 9th century, marveling at intricate Hindu wall carvings still so much in tact, laying poolside at the stunning Le Méridien, watching Apsara dancers tell mythical stories through their graceful dance, visiting local artisans, and savoring copious amounts of exotic fruits in tropical heat. Cambodia was absolutely sublime and utterly unforgettable.

I’ve been to Phnom Penh but was unable to make to Siem Reap. Hopefully someday I can go back to see Angkor Wat. Your pictures bring back a lot of memories. I miss the fruit, especially Rambhutan!

My boyfriend was there last year. Seeing his pictures and seeing your pictures (and hearing his stories) makes me want to head over.

Your photographs are beautiful! I especially like the one of the monk (I think) in the orange robe walking amidst the ruins. You must have had a wonderful time. Post more info about your trip-please!

I was in Cambodia this past summer, all of your pictures bring back such fantastic, rich memories.

The day we were at Angkor Wat it was pouring rain and rivers of water cascaded into all the ‘pools’ and down every surface, it was magnificent. All your dry, sunny pictures make it look so different- beautiful in a whole other way.
    Thanks for sharing!

P.S. I hope you got a fish pedicure in the central market in Siem Reap?!

Mon dieu! Seeing all of those baguettes makes me wonder whether these photos were really shot in Cambodia, or in Paris! It’s all about the baguettes here in Paris; I guess I would be right at home in Cambodia too!

Thanks for sharing! I hope to got there sometime soon!
    Smiles and all the best,

WOW I would LOVE to go to Cambodia one day!
This reminds me that when I was a little kid I watched Tomb Rider (with Angelina Jolie), and I thought that this was the coolest place ever! ha

I actually just got back from China, and here’s my 1st out of 3 posts about everything you need to know when traveling to Beijing, Shanghai, and Hong Kong.
    Today’s post: Beijing!
It took a big effort to write the whole thing, and I will really appreciate it if you read it, or at least see the pictures! ;)

Did you go to Banteay Srei or Beng Melea? I went to them this last summer (2012) and loved them! Also did you get a chance to see the floating village? :D

May I ask which hotel you stayed at. Thinking about going myself. Tks

  14. Erica    January 10, 2013

@Tyfoon I stayed at Le Méridien Ankor – it was lovely and very close to the temples. @Kendall I made the extra trip to see Beng Melea – it was totally worth it!!!

Easily my most favorite place on Earth. Cambodia is incredible and I highly recommend everyone go to not only Siem Reap, but the southern ocean-facing areas like Kampot and Kep. I was there exactly two years ago and miss it!
