Open Shelves

I used to have a habit of removing cabinet doors from the kitchens of every apartment I rented in the past. It was such an easy solution to brighten and open up an otherwise dark, top heavy room. Plus, it got me in the habit of consistently organizing all of my pretty inventory. When we renovated our home, we knew floating open shelves in the kitchen were a must. These are just a few of the photos that inspired our look . . . and hopefully, they’ll inspire you as well!

  4. I have open shelves in my loft and I love it. It forces you to stay organized and cut the clutter behind the shelves! All of my flour, sugar, salts are in pretty jars and I went with all white dishes to keep it bright and clean. I’m a big fan.

This is super beautiful! Although it does give me the shivers when I think about how I live on the California fault line! ;D

  8. There is something really charming about this idea, especially when the shelves are well arranged! 🙂

I don’t even have upper shelves or cupboards, and my bottom shelves are open – so much more space and not as hard to maintain as I would’ve imagined 🙂

  12. Astonishing ideas. Makes the space look more open and fresh. As long as there is no clutter and overwhelming amount of unnecessary stuff. Great selection!

  14. Grease. Open shelves are a nightmare in real life. They look gorgeous but everything on them winds up covered in grease and dust. Especially, if you don’t have a giant kitchen with industrial fan, etc. Not practical.

I grew up with an open shelved cupboard kitchen. Every “fitted” kitchen since has given me claustrophobia. Thanks for the encouragement.
