Green Village, founded by jewelry designer John Hardy and designed by his daughter Elora, is a community of sustainable and ecological houses sitting along the Ayung River in Bali. Each of the homes are made entirely of bamboo, from Bali-based bamboo and construction company Ibuku, from the window frames to the staircase, tables, chairs, floors, and even the cabinets and the walls. Did you know that with very little attention or additional resources, a bamboo shoot can become a structural column within three years and that house could stand strong for a lifetime? Honestly, amazing.

Simply spectacular! A lovelier setting I can’t imagine.
Everyone should look into using products for their homes that are “Earth friendly” such as Bamboo. Bamboo is a product that grows very rapidly. We put in bamboo flooring in every room in our home. Even though the packaging said not to put it in kitchens or bathrooms. We haven’t had any problems at all. It has been over 5 years now. Without any extra care taken whatsoever. It is extremely hard and wears exceptionally well. You can get it in different colors now. We went with the color you see pictured. And it’s very reasonable too. You can get it at Lumber Liquidators.
Beautiful at best but –what happens when it rains? Seems extremely impractical for monsoon season.
Really beautiful !!
I loved the pictures <3

Living like Tarzan and Jane ! Would be amazing
…and all the spiders and snakes creeping in at night from the nearby jungle…paradise indeed
how are these houses sustainable?
just because they are built of bamboo?
have a look at the fittings and furnishings … is there an ethics and energy accounting of these products? water consumption? electricity consumption?
sorry, but this kind of luxury may be sustainable for some elite members of society, but this is not a truly sustainable solution … we usually call it “greenwash”
I have visited Bali and I prefer the simple bamboo houses as they have doors and rooms. This looks over the top as there seems to be so much bamboo used for the size of the structure. Plus, there is no sense of privacy and security that one gets from being able to close the door. This seems more like a western idea as the Balinese don’t live in structures like this.
This is amazingly pretty, but incredibly impractical.
In any environment that allows for such open living areas, the heat and humidity make the biggest issue – bugs.
That’s not a house, that’s a pavilion.
How do you keep the fucking bugs out?
What a crock.
Nothing more than a feel good, salve your conscience, exercise, from another snooty fat cat…..telling us peons how we should live…….. because we are all filthy rich, and can afford to idle away our free time in Bali.
Beautiful. But, did they photoshop out all the bugs, spiders, lizards and birds?
this is the only way to be aware and live in peace and plant people for peace
thank u all
LOL Linda – that was my first thought. “Last a lifetime” – which is shortened considerably after you are bitten by a rabid bat in your bedroom, step on a few Rove beetles, stung by a few scorpions, not to mention being driven insane by mosquitoes…paradise indeed… Oh wait – their servants have done away with these pests by using what they THINK are “NATURAL” pesticides. Newsflash – they replaced them with ACTUAL POISONOUS PESTICIDES that work so their spoiled asses wouldn’t fire them or so they wouldn’t run around screaming like little girls.
