DIY Transparent Clutch

Posted by on

Phil Oh spotted this elegant Charlotte Olympia Pandora clutch during Paris Fashion Week and we spotted a DIY. Prada, Chanel & Fendi seem to be seeing clearly too because let’s face it, nothing says “I ain’t got shit to hide” like a transparent clutch.

You’ll need:
- a clear rectangular hinged box from The Container Store
- a pretty knob from Anthropologie
- a pair of pliers or a wrench
- a heavy duty wire cutter
- a drill
- a pointed drill bit

You’ll start by drilling a hole at the top of the plastic box. Use a drill bit that is one size larger than the diameter of the bolt on the knob, otherwise the plastic might crack. Open the lid and slowly drill a hole in the center of the box with very light pressure. Please wear protective eyewear and use caution! You can practice by drilling a few holes into the cover of a plastic CD case. Once the hole is drilled, use wire cutters to trim about an inch off the bolt. You’ll notice that your knob comes with two sets of nuts and washers. Remove one set with your wrench or pliers. (Click images to enlarge)

Push the knob through the hole of the box and replace the washer and nut. Tighten.

Voila! You’ve just made a glassy, transparent clutch – it was that easy!

Cool tutorial. @Amanda – you can find boxes like that at any shop that sells tools. It’s used to keep tools like screwdrivers inside. :)

oh my geez. I love this. I LOVE this.
but of course being the dope that I am, I bought the clear hinged container that’s just a hinge and doesn’t close on its own. got any ideas on how to make a clasp for it, or a small ball chain clasp similar to the one on the charlotte olympia clutch? I’d be INDEBTED. my box is sitting on the desk looking very sad as I’m trying to figure out how to close it.

lurve this site girls. mad genius. <333
