Wayne White

Artist Wayne White, who once worked as a set designer on Pee-wee’s Playhouse and as an art director of a Smashing Pumpkins music video, paints cheeky phrases on top of kitschy traditional landscape portraits. I’m especially drawn to his work because of its humor and quirkiness – but mostly because I personally love to collect these same type of paintings and frames from thrift stores. So brilliant!

  1. Love these – especially the second and fifth ones. These would make fun gifts for the right person. You have to give props to anyone who was part of the genius of Pee-wee’s Playhouse. =)

I’m loving the non-seriousness of these paintings! My man and I are making a move soon and something like this would be fun to have in the house. Great find!

  18. They have had a bunch of these at my fav LA diner – Fred 62 – for as long as I can remember! It’s especially amusing to look at over breakfast late at night after too many drinks… They take on so much added depth!
