Sweet As A Mural

Posted by on

Believe it or not, these historical mural reproductions are made up solely of sugar. Edible blue paint, white sugar tiles, frosting and icing are the only materials that Montreal-based artist Shelley Miller uses to create her pieces. Referencing the sugar industry’s long and significant history, her azulejo style murals are installed in several ports including Montreal and Salvador, Brazil. Of course, Shelley’s creations hardly last forever as the environment’s natural elements will slowly take it’s toll on these sweet works of art.

My birthday’s coming up…do you think my mom would make me one of those instead? :)

    Really cool.

I love Portuguese (and Brazilian) blue tiles. Shelley Miller is an incredible talent, and it’s great that she’s taking the tile art everywhere with her work. Beautiful post!

So pretty. That first one is actually from my hometown, Victoria. It was really interesting to watch how it changed as it slowly chipped away as the weeks went on. Thanks for sharing!
