DIY Uneven Denim Hem

Many of you asked about the jeans I wore in last week’s DIY so I thought I’d share the far too easy steps to achieve the same look. They were inspired by a pair of Vetements, worn by Pernille Teisbaek, during London Fashion Week. I loved the raw, uneven hem so much that I immediately pulled an old pair of jeans from my denim collection and took a seam ripper and pair of scissors to them. Using straight leg denim works best here but you an also experiment with skinny and bootcut styles. I’m on a denim destroy and repair roll – try and stop me!

You’ll need:

Start by cutting the hem off the bottom of each leg. Cut just above the stitch line. Try the jeans on and measure how high you want the front of your jeans to rise. Take off your jeans, turn them inside out and make a few hash marks with your ruler. Draw a line across the front side of each leg. I measured 2 inches initially but added another half inch later.

Use the seam ripper to remove the side hems up to the marked line. Cut across, using the drawn line as a guide.

unevenhem4

Remove a few of the white horizontal threads, one at a time.

Run it through the washing machine and dryer before wearing.

Wear with heels or boots . . .

Or flats!

So pleased you have shared this step by step guide. Just what I was looking for. However, I wanted to confirm if the jeans need to be lock stitched to stop the coming undone at the side seams through wear? I looked forward to a reply.
