Bangs

Oh, the vexing question every girl has asked herself when it comes to taking the frontal fringe leap: should I or shouldn’t I? Bangs sure aren’t the lowest of maintenance but once you achieve that perfectΒ Jane Birkin-esque set, you may never want to grow them out . . . I can certainly attest to that! So where do you stand on bangs? Yay or nay?

Aaaack, what an amazing collection on bang porn! I always find myself wishing I had them, and I the one time in my life I did it I thought they were rocking, but my husband’s not a huge fan. As much as I’d like to pretend that’s not a factor, of course it is. And then too, as a dancer, they were just always in my way. But now that I’m focusing more on other directions in life, maybe this is the perfect time to add some to my new short ‘do…

I recently got bangs after not having them for a few years, and I love them! The only problem is I have curly hair, and that means I need to style it everyday, which of course can be quite the hassle sometimes. I also think bangs are easier to work with if you have thicker, fuller hair.

I have a love-hate relationship with bangs. As in, I’d love to not have them (and have tried to go without), but I hate how I look without them. I have a rectangular face shape and bangs are absolutely essential for me. They vary between side-swept, Farrah-Fawcett-esq, and Jane-Birkin-ish, but they are always there. They are definitely not low-maintenance, though, which is why I’d love to have a face that could go without. Besides, as you can tell from this post, they work way better with long hair than with short. I have a funny lengthed bob right now b/c I’m growing out a pixie, and my bangs are trickier to deal with than usual.

    DIY BANGS!!!

This diy is for classic CAT POWER bangs: (http://bureaux.petitemort.org/wp-content/uploads/2006/11/catpower-vidnytimes.jpg)
    * but there are side notes if you want to achieve the other bangs styles listed below:
    ZOOEY DESCHANEL (wider, thicker): http://i2.listal.com/image/2267865/600full-zooey-deschanel.jpg
and AUDREY HEPBURN (shorter, wider): http://silvervelvetsky.files.wordpress.com/2012/01/ce_willoughby_audrey_hepburn_01.jpg
    FEIST (longer, thinner): http://userserve-ak.last.fm/serve/_/4776428/Feist.jpg

    YOU NEED:
    – Wide tooth comb
    – Water to wet your hair (like a shower)
    – Clean scissors made for cutting hair (really sharp)
    – Hair tie or clip
    – A reminder that hair grows (so don’t panic)

    STEPS:

    1. Wet your hair. This will show where your hair naturally pieces and chunks, so you can snip chunks of hair at about the same length.

    2. Shake your head so you hair is in your face, fairly evenly. This should give you an idea of where your bangs will naturally fall.

    3. Keeping your hair in the same position as it fell after shaking your head, comb it out. This assures hairs are aligned. Your comb should be wide so it doesn’t get rid of your wet hairs natural piecing.

    4. Make your first small snip in the very middle of your face, at the length of your nose. So, this should be a single snip that is about the width and length and position of your nose.

    5. Comb your hair out like you normally would. Now you should have a part again, but a shorter snip hanging in the middle of you face.

    6. With your comb, gather an equal amount of hairs from each side so that your future bangs naturally fall between the two arches of your eyebrows. Finger-comb the hair in your face so it pieces into bigger chunks.
    * For DESCHANEL bangs, you want to gather an equal amount of hairs from each side so that you have hair which naturally falls at each side of your face (before ears, after cheeks). Make sure you have a thick amount of hair.
    * For HEPBURN bangs, do the Deschanel instructions above.
    * For FEIST bangs, you want to make sure you gather a thin amount of hair.

    7. Tie or clip the rest of your hair back.

    8. Angle your scissors a little bit, and began cutting chunks, piece-by-piece, until you have even bangs that hang at the bridge of your nose. Now you should be pretty practiced at snipping your bangs.

    9. This is the part where you want to be careful (but still remember that hair grows). The length you want your bangs is between the top of your lashes and the bottom of your eyebrows. Make small snips at your hair pieces until you achieve an even look.
    * For DESCHANEL bangs, make sure your have a straight cut.
    * For HEPBURN bangs, cut to about half an inch above your brows. Also make sure you have a straight cut.
*For FEIST bangs, cut them a little longer; to your bottom lash line. Make your snips a little shaggy.

    10. Now let your hair down, and flip your hair, then shake your head so hair falls naturally. Make any editing-snips. Let it dry, and do the same (but don’t obsess).

    Ta da!

I love bangs on a girl. Even I have bangs and a lot of girls around me go crazy over them. However I really like blonde girls who have to nicely sized pigtails with classic bangs at the front. I don’t care what anyone else says but it’s the sexiest hair style (with correct skin tone of course) a girl could have. I hear that in the old days girls would often rock that hairstyle in the summer time. Man I wish I was around that time, it would be much easier for me to find someone with the look that get’s me going. Luckily I’m fortunate enough to find a girl in New Zealand who wears pigtails but she don’t have bangs. Mainly because they’re hard for her to maintenance. However i that’s my opinion on this subject.

I love me some bangs! I DON’T SEE WHY THEY ARE SO HARD? Other than bi-weekly cuts, they’re a hairstyle within themselves. So low-maintence. One can MAKE them high-maintenance, but long hair &I bangs are a look on their own! I’ve had them off &on throughout my life (including the obligatory bangs of childhood). I finally settled it. If my hair is long, yes bangs. My hair is half-way down my back (grown from a pixie-cut; what can I say? I’m blessed w an interestingly shaped face,&after losing the baby-fat-face of my teens &early 20’s, most hairstyles look DECENT on me).
The biggest leap for me? No layers! Ive long blunt-cut hair &I heavy bangs. Once I let go of layering, perfect!. It is SUPER hot in the summer ‘tho!
