Mario Testino’s Alta Moda

Alta Moda is a personal project for fashion photographer Mario Testino. It brought him to his home of Peru to capture the Peruvian culture and traditional dress – the Mario Testino way. “So much Peruvian history lives on in these clothes,” said Testino. “I have become aware on my travels that when a country loses the connection between its history and its traditional dress, something truly precious is lost.” Some of these gorgeous garments are costumes for the Carnival of Ccatca, Qhapaq qolla dance costume, and traditional women’s dress from the Province of Espinar, Cusco. As I’m planning my trip to Peru this fall, these images absolutely excite me. The Alta Moda exhibit is at the Dallas Contemporary Museum from September 21- December 22. This is a must see!

So gorgeous. There was an issue of Vogue Paris from last year, April (in case you can get your hands on it somehow) that was all about Peru, and had an amazing spread by Mario Testino as well. I had to snap it up even though I can’t read any french because the images just blew me away. Obviously, since it’s stuck with me for over a year! Would be amazing to see an exhibit of this stuff.

  3. That is what i try to do with From The World With i select curated collections from around the world that transcend memories of heritage and tradition into meaningful pieces that are just as beautiful when they are paired with modern trends.
Upon learning from the native families that have carried their artisanal craftsmanship with them throughout time, From the World with Love has become an acquisition of timeless and effortless pieces that bring us back to the foundations of fashion.

  4. We loved this exhibit! So much so, our new fall 2014 collection, Folklore Fantasy, was inspired by these photographs and the wonderful, colorful native costumes worn by the Peruvian people. Thanks for sharing, Lauren!
