I have an awful habit of losing sunglasses. Needless to say, I’ve accumulated an impressive collection of sunglass cases over the years. Recently we’ve discovered that these abandoned containers can easily by re-purposed into fabulous mini clutches! Inspired by those spotted during Milan and Paris Fashion Weeks, we made a super simple minaudière with just a few tools and a fancy piece of hardware.
– a hard sunglass case
– a drawer pull
– a wrench –
– a bolt cutter (a bolt cutter is a really useful tool to own for DIY projects and is quite inexpensive!)
– a drill
– a twisted drill bit
Open the sunglass case and drill a hole in the top center. Run the drill through the hole a few times in order to make the opening wide enough to fit the drawer pull. Trim the screw of the drawer pull with the bolt cutter, leaving only half an inch. Push the drawer pull through the hole and attach the accompanying hex nut. Tighten with the wrench. Amazing idea and so simple. I must go rummage through my drawers for an discarded glasses case now.
I often use the case to keep my key and jewelry at the pool but adding the clasp is genius!!

I forced (f o r c e d) my dear friend Fanny to walk around Stockholms small botuiques today in my search for the perfect drawer pull. Found an amazing light pink, porcelin rose but really wanted an animal so the search had to go on for a couple of hours. Finally I found the perfect one in shape of a pretty metal bird painted in shades of gold, greyish/blue and dark red. Prettylicious. Just gonna paint the sunglass case in a nice colour and then start drilling. Im stoked about it! hahaha

I’m trying my hardest to make this, but I can’t drill throught the sunglasses case. It’s metal and my drill (400w regular diy drill used it for tile/masonary) but won’t go through the metal. :(…Any suggestions? …..

These are adorable; I’m wondering though, if you could also transfer an image (such as the floral images on the jacket) onto one of these, if they are fabric instead of leather or metal. Wondering if you think that would work. My niece is a big comic books fan, and I was thinking of doing something like that for a Christmas present for her.
