My Decorist Makeover

The one thing that astounded me the most, after we finished our home renovation, was how challenging decorating can be. You can imagine how this quandary comes to me as a surprise, especially considering how dogmatic I am about what I love and hate when it comes to design. But there’s something about it being our first home that feels almost too precious, that I’ve had a tiresome time actually pulling the trigger on big pieces of furniture, artwork and a comprehensive look. I’ve come to the realization that sometimes, it’s just better to relinquish control and let someone else make the decisions for you. And that’s where Decorist and designer Will Wick came to save the day with our master bedroom design . . .

After seeing Gretchen Hansen’s stunning San Francisco home several months ago, which was 100% virtually designed using the design service she founded, I was completely convinced that I had to try it for myself. This is how it worked: I first selected a designer. I chose San Francisco designer Will Wick for his bold, eclectic and masculine aesthetic. Then, I uploaded a few photos of the existing room, including items that I was interested in keeping, which in this case was just the Turkish rug. After filling out a short questionnaire about my own design aesthetic and budget, Will sent me 2 design layouts to choose from. Both had shopping lists with links to all the products which were all conveniently available for purchase online. I picked the design my husband and I loved the most, revised it with Will one more time, and then voila . . . this is how it all came together. Pretty amazing, right!?
