I’ve always considered myself environmentally conscious but my awareness has been heightened in the last few years, especially after the birth of my son Quincy. The decisions we make around the food we eat, the air we breathe, and the waste we produce will have a lasting effect on us and many generations to come. So with Earth Day upon us, I love knowing that sustainable designers like John Hardy are working towards a greener future with programs like Wear Bamboo, Plant Bamboo. A portion of proceeds from the Bamboo Collection are used to plant bamboo seedlings in Bali, the same country where the jewelry is handmade by local artisans steeped in a tradition of excellence. And in celebration of Earth month, John Hardy is donating an additional percent of sales to support Trees New York and their mission to plant 100 evergreen trees in New York City by 2015. Now, that’s a mission we stand behind. Happy Earth Day!

I realize this article is about bamboo-shaped jewellery, but I just want to give a heads up to HWTF readers that wearing bamboo fabric clothing is not environmentally healthy. Harsh chemicals are used to break down bamboo in order to turn them into fibres that can be used for making cloth. So while you’re helping the planet by planting more bamboo you’re not helping because of the chemical processing. Again, this comment is only in reference to bamboo fabric, not the lovely jewellery above.
I honestly, sincerely, NEVER thought I would find such sparkly Earth Day wear. Inspiration can come from anywhere! Love it.
Lovely pieces!!

Not to be a downer, but I just wanted to let your readers know (or people who bother to read the comments), that people should NEVER PLANT BAMBOO, its a highly invasive species. Bamboo is a huge threat to the biodiversity of native plants. Sooo not the best name for the company/program. But, the jewelry is beautiful.
Good collection.
