Hotel San José is a little urban oasis in the heart of downtown Austin and the first lodging concept from hotelier Liz Lambert, who you might remember from El Cosmico in Marfa. What once was an old motor lodge from the 1930‘s has now been transformed into a clean and minimal bungalow-style hotel. Oh, and forgot your swimsuit? Ask the front desk for a Dipster, a disposable bathing suit. Honestly!
Last time I was in Austin, I stumbled upon this hotel which is on one of the main streets but hidden away so you don’t really know what it it. I walked around the grounds to check it out. It’s such a hidden gem. The grounds are beautiful and lush and gives you some much needed shade from the Texas heat.
I will definitely be staying here the next time I’m in Austin. Which by the way is one of my fave cities in the US.

Looks like a lovely place to stay. I have never heard of a disposable bathing suit. That sounds hilarious. I’m sure you are just kidding. I wish you would post a photo of that 😀

I like how the paint on the stairs looks a bit old and faded, as though it’s been there for some time. I would have liked to have seen a “Dipster” draped on the bed or over a chair too. Curious to see if it too, looks more reflective of the time. Such calming surroundings, a hidden gem from when we were last there.
I stayed at this hotel last year when we were in Austin over Labor Day weekend – it was perfection inside and out. I fell in love with this hotel, the city, and also the vibrant bathrobes provided (I need to find out where I can get my hands on one for keeps!). If you are ever in Austin, you MUST STAY HERE. It is heavenly.
Thanks for the beautiful pictures — I have been wanting to go to Austin forever, and now I am set on where I want to stay!
Ha! This is such a coincidence. I spent my wedding night at this hotel exactly three years ago today. The staff surprised us by covering the bed with rose petals.
Also, if you’re not a guest at the hotel, you can still hang out by the pool and drink micheladas. It’s a really beautiful chill-spot.
Looks so rustic and pretty!

Stayed there the last time I was in Austin. Have been thinking about the bed coverings ever since. Any idea where the fabrics came from?
NICE PLACE:)

Oh this is beautiful! This may be the place I stay when I visit Austin.
Unique!
amazing <3
I have stayed at this amazing hotel, and I loved it. The staff is kind and pleasant, and it resides in the center of SoCo, which means plenty of cute shops and food. I remember there was even a poem by my sink! It was the quirky details like this that made me really adore this place!
If I ever get to Austin, I know now where to stay.
