We’re stopping to smell the roses with this week’s reader requested DIY. Prada‘s spring jewelry collection, comprising of necklaces, bracelets, brooches and earrings featuring large resin flowers and crystals, is flawlessly retro and delightfully feminine. With the abundance of assorted resin cabochons and pear-shaped rhinestones available online, you’ll have a ball customizing your very own pair of danglers. Honestly!
You’ll need:
- a rhinestone frog closure
- 2 2omm resin rose cabochons
- 2 10mm glue-on earrings posts
- 2 earrings backs
- 2 1.5″ silver head pins
- 2 silver eye pins
- 2 jump rings
- E-6000 glue (the best adhesive to use when gluing metals)
- flat nose pliers
- round nose pliers
- wire cutters
- a small disposable container or spoon
- a toothpick
Using the wire cutters, snip off any hooks or attachments fastened to the rhinestone frog closure.
The tip of the eye pins will be glued to the top of each rhinestone drop. Trim the eye pin to fit. Squeeze a dollop of E6000 glue onto a small wooden spoon or disposable plate. I like to use a small amount at a time, as the glue tends to try quickly.
Use a toothpick to apply a good amount of glue onto the rhinestone drop. Attach the trimmed eye pins and allow them to dry completely.
Push a head pin through the top of the resin cabochon. With the round nose pliers, make a 90 degree bend in the wire.
Keeping the pliers at the base of bend, wrap the wire around the outer jaw to create a loop. Trim away any excess wire.
Apply a large drop of glue to the back of each resin cabochon. Press the ear posts into the glue and allow them to dry completely.
Attach the resin rose and rhinestone drop together with a jump ring.
Your Prada-inspired resin rose earrings are finished!
Attach a few ear backs and they’re ready to wear. Enjoy!

To achieve the Prada soft colours, I was thinking of painting the rhinestones with a light coat of translucent nail polish. Has anyone ever tried it?

Guys, first and foremost just to say the site is brilliant; its given me so much inspiration and now I can finally afford to make, at least a version, of the clothes and accessories I love.
While I blog about what I would wear if I could afford it, you blog about how to make those dreams afforable. I would be very grateful if you could check out my blog; whilst only in its early days I think it has real potential -the internet is seriously lacking a fierce, unashamedly feminist fashion blog.
Thanks
Constructive criticism much appreciated 🙂
http://whatiwould.blogspot.co.uk/
I made a few pairs of these when I first saw the Prada line a few months back,
I found that my ears are too stretched and the earrings sagged and looked unsightly. So I made mine with clip on backs instead.
Wonderful earrings.. i love your blog and postings , a big hug and thanks for all your great ideas, love Sara
Brilliant!
The floral cabochons look great in this fun DIY project. Cabochons are also available in more youthful themes for a less glamorous look.
They would look soooooo good on me!!!!!!! 😀
So beautiful!
I can’t find rose cabochons with a hole in the back 🙁
This is what I want to konw, thanks very much!
U do the most horrible things!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:P
Does anyone know where I can get the frog closures ?
Does anyone know where you can get the rose cabochons with the hole in the back? I have found everything but that, and its impossible to get the pin through a flower with no hole.
Hello!
Could you tell me where you tend to buy most of your jewelry making stuff? I cannot WAIT to make these, but couldn’t find the cabochons or the rhinestone clips.
Thanks so much!
Annnnnnd I need to retract my previous question. I just realized there are links to everything at the top.
Thanks again!
I just ordered these off ETSY, it’s an earring pad with a hole on the bottom already. I have worked with these flower cabochons in the past and the flat bottom ones always adhere better.

Hi, I love these earrings, but can someone please tell me where I can get the cabochons with the predrilled holes? I’ve been all over Etsy and Ebay to no avail, and I’d love to give these a try.
Thanks!
I think this silver Earrings is perfect for day parties.
