Several years ago I was lucky enough to visit Hangzhou, one of the most beautiful cities in China, home of the legendary West Lake, and a place I’ve been wanting to revisit ever since. So you can understand how excited I was to discover Amanfayun, a new Áman resort on the outskirts of the ancient city. In the spirit of a traditional Chinese village, the resort boasts 47 dwellings with stone floors, camphor-wood walls, and clay-tiled roofs. With breathtaking views of thirteenth-century bodhisattvas and Buddhas carved into the nearby cliff, Amanfayun seems like the perfect place to appreciate the serenity of what Marco Polo once described as “the city of heaven.”

My husband and I travel to China a few times a year (Shanghai currently being my favorite stop) and I’ve finally convinced my parents to come along for a two week tour this fall. Thanks for posting this–I haven’t been to Hangzhou but will definitely have to add this to our itinerary!
