Vogue is looking back at 120 years of covers with their latest Vogue: The Covers. Organized in chronological order by decade, the book begins with illustrated covers from the magazine’s inception in 1892 to present day. Witnessing the evolution of fashion, art, culture, and photography via the work of influential artists like Helmut Newton, Irving Penn, Richard Avedon, Bruce Weber, Herb Ritts, Steven Meisel, Annie Leibovitz, and Mario Testino is exemplary and fascinating.

So nice to see covers from before it was all about celebrity portraiture. I always appreciate the cover when it arrives in the mailbox, but I pine for more creative images from such a powerhouse staff.
Ooh i need to get my hands on this book! When i was in Paris i bought a few of the illustrated covers from the 40’s and 50’s that hang up on my wall and are adorable.
I never realized that Vogue was quite that old! It’s amazing to see the progression of how not only the covers have changed, but how styles and headlines have changed as well. What an amazing collection! I will definitely be adding this book to my Christmas wishlist. Amazing!

Vogue is the crappiest of all high fashion magazines. It’s for old ladies. They need a new editor.
wow 120 years, artistic even back then!
They were always perfect! I don’t buy Vogue usually because I think the magazine is only for old and rich women, but I also think that Vogue is a bible for fashionistas 🙂

I adore the illustrated covers from the early 20th century. I also love the one’s form the 40’s and 50’s because the remind me of “Funny Girl”. I had a girlfriend in high school, who was way ahead of the curve, that had classic Vogue cover posters all around her room. It looked so chic for a 16 year old!

Love this. Stefan has a few old Vogues from the fifties… I love looking through them but they are so fragile… I worry that I’ll ruin them!
