Shaina Mote AIR

Allow me to introduce you to Shaina Mote, a new-to-me, LA based label that has centered their ethos and practices around supporting their local economy and trades found within domestic garment manufacturing since 2012. Sustainability is also a top priority for the brand, as well as the catalyst for their latest collection AIR. In an effort to reduce material waste in a city that, shockingly, has yet to implement a fabric waste program, AIR was created from a variety of dead stock materials rescued from the cutting table, like sheer silk organza, satin acetate crepe and organic poplin. The result is a collection of statement pieces and staples that are beautifully delicate and lighter than air. My favorites are the Asti top, a sheer wrap blouse with a cloud-inspired sleeve, and the Naropa skirt, a floor length bias cut slip style skirt in the most gorgeously mild chartreuse hue. And I just love that scrap fabrics are made into scrunchies and shopping bags . . . all beauty, no waste.
