We left New York on an optimistic, albeit freezing, high. It was all about practicality these past couple of days (with one special exception) but with interesting and inspiring silhouettes that we can’t wait to recreate come fall.

Rosetta Getty: We’ve had our eyes on Rosetta Getty ever since she re-established her namesake label a few seasons ago. Her ability to create an effortless yet luxe way of dressing has seasonless allure. Shirtdresses with elongated slits, extra wide leg culottes, and deconstructed cardigans?! This LA designer is speaking loud and clear to her fellow Angelinos.

Narciso Rodriguez: The king of modern minimalism turned to India’s maharajas for inspiration this season. You would have never guessed that such ornate and extravagant traditional dressing could influence a collection of unornamented and urban silhouettes. But that was the beauty in it all. Glorious shades of rosy peach and marigold, long retro-like vests, and elongated tailored trousers were a perfect, paired down interpretation. Simple but so thoughtfully executed and stunning.

Band Of Outsiders: We loved the oversized proportions of Scott Sternberg’s 70s inspired plaid suits, overcoats and pilgrim belts. A bit preppy, a tad boyish and a whole lot of awesome.

Elizabeth and James: A sexier, more feminine side to Elizabeth & James had its usual approachability but with The Row-like richness. The outerwear was flawless – coats in blush colored Mongolian lamb, nubby burgundy and ivory wool and luxe grey knit – and immediately found its place on the top our wish lists for fall.

Tory Burch: Marrakech met Chelsea in Tory Burch’s fall collection. Gorgeous kilim patterns adorned knit sweaters, wrap skirts and jacquard coats. And suits, suede shirts, and silk dresses were never without ties around the neck. The British bohemia theme was well balanced and pragmatic – in that perfect Tory way.

J.Crew: Predictability never even came to mind when we walked into J.Crew’s presentation earlier this week. The styling was refreshingly non-overdone but rather executed with eclectic sophistication and above all else, it was all wearable. The color and texture combinations were inspiring but it was tailored pieces like the extra wide leg grey pants and suit coverall that really stole the show.

Delpozo: Tears welled in our eyes the first time we saw a Delpozo collection walk down a runway. Josep Font’s couture worthy creations are fantastically creative, unapologetically unfamiliar and exquisitely executed. His ideas and creativity are what fashion is all about. Inspired by the colorful palette of Australian artist Rhys Lee and the Pre-Raphaelite spirit of Russian painter Andrey Remnev, the nonpareil storyteller was all about about large, structural volume and vibrant, unexpected color combinations. Perfection.
