Rock Restaurant

Perched on a rock in the middle of the Indian Ocean, off the coast of Zanzibar, Tanzania, is a tiny seafood restaurant simply named The Rock Restaurant. Depending on the tides that day, you can either swim, walk, or boat over for a fresh caught meal! Shall I make us a reservation?

  10. Very cool. I wonder if they’re ever worried about being washed away. If I swam there, I would definitely hope the food was worth the effort. =)

the looks exactly like this amazing bar in the middle of the ocean in Jamaica. It’s called Floyd’s pelican bar and you really have to see it to believe it! From the shore it looks like a tiny speck, but when you boat up to it you realize they serve beer and lobster!

I have eaten there and it is most certainly worth it. The menu (a crumpled A4) has the usual variety of fresh fish but the difference here is that once you order, the closest avaiable fisherman goes and gets it for you. That means that there is no hurry. While you wait, kilimanjaro beer gets served, ice cold from some refrigerator in the village nearby. We had the most delicious potatoes, tomato and rice with our meal, which was all prepared right there on n little fire in very old and battered little pot. As far as we could find out, there are two boys running it and whoever is around or gets called when people arrive, will be the maitre’d and the cook.

While very cool, it is certainly not in the “middle” of the Indian Ocean.
On the beach of Zanzibar yes, “middle” of Indian Ocean I don’t think so.
Silly Americans, always exaggerating and sensationalising..
