Charts that illustrate how to pet certain animals and creatures . . . THIS made my day.
Bon George
I so badly want to put an exclamation point behind new eco-conscious clothing label Bon George. Bon George! It deserves it. Designers Jennifer Vu and Lucy Alvarez keep their entire manufacturing process local in Los Angeles and instead of sourcing new materials, all of their limited-edition pieces are made from recycled and vintage textiles. They are decreasing their carbon footprint one wearable garment at time. I love the cropped navy pinstripe shell – perfect for summer.
Antelope Valley Poppy Reserve
I must thank Janelle Pietrzak, of All Roads Design, for sharing her photos of the Antelope Valley Poppy Reserve on Instagram. Her trip inspired me to take my own impromptu mid-week road trip, so that I could see for myself the most consistent poppy bearing land in California. And just after an hour long drive, there it was. 1,745 acres of desert wildflowers and golden poppies, our state flower which has always symbolized California’s good life. Check the state park website for weather conditions (it’s really windy up there) and flowering conditions. It’s a bit past the time of optimum viewing, but I am so very happy I went.
Femme D’Armes Spring 2014
Designers and sisters Fannie Chan and Connie Majoros understand the modern woman. Dominated by dramatic blacks and crisp whites, the understated style of their Femme D’Armes spring collection is spot on. Menswear inspired silhouettes are occasionally complimented with delicate lace and feminine details. Every piece is refined but approachable, strong but sweet. I’m obsessed with their floor skimming Bailey gown, which has a thigh high slit and plunging back – and is available in black, nude and white lace, green chiffon and a birds of paradise print. Stunning.
The Penniless Photographer
Zeren Badar is one imaginative and resourceful cat. The Turkish photographer and artist, also known as the Penniless Photographer, places unexpected items, like cereal, cookies, magnets, and stamps, on top of prints of old paintings. The combinations in these 3D collages are so alluring and clever!
