Mary Katrantzou S/S 2012

I usually associate spring with flowers, birds, and nature, as I’m sure many of you do too. But what Mary Katrantzou has done with spring’s most predictable motif is uncommon to say the least – abstractly blending technology and mankind with nature. Inspired by John Chamberlain‘s crushed-car sculptures, Katrantzou incorporated the toughness of metal into her collection: literally, with actual pieces of tin appliqued to the fabrics and figuratively, with prints made up of metal objects and graphics. Combine that with flowers, fish and scales and once again, we’re blown away by just about everything Mary touches.

LOVE these prints. Love all the prints from this season actually, but especially love the marine life. Designers have been so bold mixing and matching prints and textures this season. It makes me want to touch everything!

  14. I am floored by this collection. It is somewhat reminiscent of Dries Van Noten Collections I’ve seen in the past. Her ability to mix patterns and shapes is ASTOUNDING. That first outfit literally looks like a shining piece of crumpled metal. This isn’t just fashion, this is art!!
