Stella’s Blue

When I first discovered Yves Saint Laurent’s Faux Cils in Extreme Blue, almost 10 years ago, it immediately became the only mascara I’d ever wear. So after spotting an even more vivid hue on the eyelashes of models at Stella McCartney‘s fall show, I became a bit envious. Is it time to move on to bolder and brighter? Do you wear colored mascara? If so, I’d love to hear your recommendations!

  5. I saw this trend all over the place during New York Fashion Week, and all the coverage of the shows, and I have to say that this is an “odd” makeup trend that is actually super attractive. It bring so much sparkle and light and interest to your eyes, which let’s face it, is a great feature on just about everybody.

  8. This post has just taken me back to a very funny time in my life. I remember saving up my pocket money for weeks to be able to afford this YSL extreme blue mascara. I must have been about 10 years old.
My mother thought I was totally insane but I wanted it more than I have ever wanted anything before.
I wonder what ever happened to it? I wish I still had it. This look is awesome and thank you for sharing! I may have to save up my money to give it another go!

  9. I used to wear cobalt mascara in college, too – which I just realized was… 10 years ago – ha. I loved Almay’s. blue mascara! Random/weirdly, the other day, Stefan asked me why I never wear colored mascara. I thought he was joking, because his taste is so conservative! This post totally makes me want to break out the bottle again… so fun.

It is hard to find colored mascara in bright colors. Victoria secret had two great colors in violet and indigo blue , but they discontinued the products. I stock piled my faves from amazon:

    http://www.amazon.com/Victorias-Secret-Beauty-Violight-Mascara/dp/B00540U0HY/ref=sr_1_fkmr1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1331824071&sr=8-2-fkmr1

If you layer in top of black it is more subtle as well. Hope this helps. =)

Maybelline actually made some colored mascara last year – I couldn’t resist the green one, since I have green eyes. It’s fairly subtle, but adds a hint of color. I think L’Oreal also makes a couple that are tinted, colors like garnet and bronze. I can’t wait to try them! (And I’m 36, so I think as long as you feel you can rock it, you should go for whatever color mascara you want!)

Have loved & worn various shades of blue mascara since I was a teenager – now 59. It is softer and suits my colouring. But it has been soo hard to find in country Australia in recent years. So I am rapt in this post! A hint: pumping the wand allows the mixture to dry out, so I put the wand in a half-glass of hot water, this softens it and extends the life of the mixture.

Bright lashes??? Easy, first of all put a black mascara and then use the colored one…
You can also use special effect top coats, Bourjois has some really vivid top coats for lashes.
DiorShow Mascara in Azure Blue or the colored mascaras from The Make Up Store are very bright too.
Few years ago, Estee Lauder had an special edition of Sumptuous Color mascara, colors were almost fluor, hopefully they come back!!!
Chanel has colored mascaras that are formulated with a black base, lashes look gorgeous but the colors are not really bright.
Dr Hauschka has a very beautiful blue mascara and is an holistic brand…
No matter which mascara you choose, if you really want pop out lashes, try the trick of the 2 steps with black underneath 😉
