The Big Easy

I can’t remember what inspired our entire family to take Thanksgiving on the road this year, but all of us were thrilled to spend the holiday in New Orleans – a first for all of us. If you haven’t visited, I implore you to go. The radiant energy, the genuine hospitality, the bright and bold colors, the sounds of music playing on the streets during all hours of the day, and the amazing food make The Big Easy one of the most unique cities I’ve ever visited. My advice: stay in the French Quarter, stumble upon any live show on Frenchman Street, eat beignets, ride the St. Charles Avenue street car, go antique shopping on Magazine Street, walk as far as your feet will take you and above all else, bring a Canon DSLR camera. You’ll want to capture the vibrant sights. I don’t consider myself a skilled photographer but I’m so glad I was able to bring the new Canon EOS Rebel T6i DSLR camera on this trip. It’s small enough that it fits nicely in my bag and easy to use enough that I only used it on a single setting with Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM lens – perfect for walking and snapping. Plus, the new built-in Wi-Fi capabilities allowed me to wirelessly transfer my photos directly onto my phone to edit and share on social media. I won’t travel without it!

Gorgeous photographs! So happy you all had a wonderful holiday in our amazing city despite the hot and muggy weather this year. “Stay in the French Quarter” is the saddest NOLA advice I have heard, though! You will miss out on some of the best non-touristy areas and things to do and eat around City Park/MidCity, Esplanade Ridge, Audubon Park, and the up-and-coming Bywater.
