Ties With Tradition

These charming and beautiful aprons, which were recently part of an exhibition in Australia, are traditionally woven and worn on special occasions by generations of Macedonian women. The powerful juxtaposition of colors, patterns, and materials tell the stories of their lives, villages and traditions. If you’re interested, you can click here to read some of the touching stories that accompany each apron. Mh, interesting. I would think of aprons as something worn while cooking to protect your clothing. Guess those are different.

Whats with the other two comments? I don’t see a clutch and no prints either… those are woven..wtf

aprons like these can be traced back to really primative roots. they were worn to protect as well as draw attention to a lady’s fertility. the intricate colors and patterns were meant to confuse the evil eye. I really love looking at these aprons. they’re mesmerizing! thanks for posting them.

I love aprons and, like hats, wish people wore them more often. The colors on these are beautiful and I love that they each come with a story.
