Honestly WTF

Moscow

Posted by on

How lucky we feel to have been able to experience Moscow for the first time last week, with our friends at Kira Plastinina as our gracious hosts. With just a handful of days in Russia’s historic capital, we actually managed to squeeze in a bit of it all: taking in every square inch of beauty at St. Basil’s Cathedral, shopping for matryoshka dolls, fur hats and antiques, dining at the legendary Cafe Pushkin, seeing Swan Lake at the newly renovated Bolshoi Theater, waking up to the first snowfall of the season, spending hours exploring The Armory’s lavish treasures inside The Kremlin, visiting the fashion darlings behind Buro 24/7, admiring The Red Square for the umpteenth time, touring Kira‘s headquarters during Moscow Fashion Week, and buying a single metro ticket to stop off at all of the most exquisite underground stations. We’re still reeling from the stunning splendor and veritable generosity of Moscow . . . and honestly can’t wait to return.

I spent a week in Moscow in August and you’re making me miss it so much! Wish I could’ve seen it dusted with snow, it’s such a lovely city. Hope you also got to see the Diamond Fund! (Too bad they don’t allow cameras!)

Beautiful pictures! I was in Moscow in 2009 and loved every minute of it. Though I did grow tired of mayo. Russians put that on EVERYTHING!

    Fur hats – really.
& another bunch of fashion insensitives – have you actually seen the killing of the animals
that make up your ‘lovely’ hats. Is it necessary.

What a Fairytale land! The cold must be so harsh and unbearable, but yet, the colors of the city are so inspiring and beautiful.

Lovely pics, I visited Moscow 2 years ago and still remember this beautiful big city…comparing with my native city of course.
Don’t be afraid to visit Russia or Ukraine – we don’t wear fur hats everyday and we have no bears going around The Red Square. Maybe just after some drops of vodka=))

What camera do you use? These pictures are STUNNING! I especially love the hats, the ones you two wore are really divine. Must see Russia for myself one day!

@Sophie Glad you like our photos. These are a combination of both of our photos. Erica has a Panasonic Lumix GF1 and I have a Canon 40D.

    How I envy you!
You’ve seen my favorite ballet at the most mythical theater in the world!
    Hope it was awesome!

Oh, it must have been an amazing trip! So colorful and full of history. The photo of the fur hats is just like the ones my Russian coworker brought to the office yesterday to see if anyone wanted to buy one (his mother-in-law brought them back from Russia)… If only I had several hundred dollars for one–SIGH.

Fur for necessity I understand….but fur for the sake of fashion? I am Russian, so I know how goddamn cold it is there, and I understand that it’s often the best thing for people to keep warm. However, brutally killing animals just to look cute in a puffy hat is something I cannot understand.
