I just spent the last hour enveloped in my research of Northern Soul, the fascinating inspiration for Karen Walker‘s Fall collection. Northern soul was a music and dance movement that emerged from the British mod scene in 60s and 70s, where working-class young people would swarm the dance floors at clubs across Northern Britain. After long nights and sometimes entire weekends of athletic and competitive dance, the dancers would return to their job on the docks. Walker churned out a modern and lovely interpretation of the movement with delicate floral-print blouses, full dancing skirts, boyish trousers, industrial capes and jackets. And the grey and cobalt blue color palettes really pushed me over the edge – they’re my newest color obsessions!

It’s clearly all about the 70s, ladies. And Marc Jacobs couldn’t have more successfully channeled the era than in his Marc by Marc Jacobs Fall Collection: metallic leathers, wide leg trousers, high waisted skirts, belted coats, silks, satins, tweeds, oranges, yellows, browns, blues and greens . . . and oh, the shoes!
