Chanel Pre-Fall 2013

Was there a relationship in history as dramatic and emotional as the one between Queen Elizabeth and Mary Queen of Scots? Not according to Karl Lagerfeld, who was inspired by the ill-fated Queen of Scotland when creating his pre-fall collection for Chanel. Drop-waisted kilt-pleated coats, tartan and tweed jackets, and Elizabethan ruffled necklines came down the runway in the courtyard of Linlithgow Palace in Scotland. Coco Chanel actually had close ties to Scotland and learned about tweed and knitwear from Barrie Knitwear, which recently was acquired by Chanel. Bravo, Karl, on another utterly amazing spectacle!

DIY Felt Acorns

Posted by on

Ever since I experimented with needle felting earlier this year, I’ve been fascinated with the plethora of potential DIYs associated with this age-old technique. After spotting felted acorns at an adorable boutique in Carmel, I quickly discovered I couldn’t achieve the look with a felting needle (Honestly, fail!) Instead it required an easier method called wet felting which simply involves some hot, soapy water. Suffice to say, I’m obsessed and can’t wait to make a bevy of these felted knickknacks!

You’ll need:

  • wool roving
  • acorn caps
  • thread
  • drill
  • hot glue gun
  • dishwashing soap
  • 2 bowls

Office Space: The Reveal

Posted by on

After weeks of shopping for furniture, collecting artwork, experimenting with wallpaper, and organizing our craft closet, the HonestlyWTF headquarters is finally complete. The result is an attractive and welcoming space, with our favorite feature being the massive inspiration board and the most unexpected feature being the wallpapered accent wall. I was initially hoping to cover a wall with tin ceiling tiles but after discovering the more affordable option of textured and paintable wallpaper, I had to test it out. The application process was surprisingly easy and the paper really added a fantastic dimension to the office. I ended up loving it so much we might just have adorn another wall soon! So here it is: the big reveal. Come visit us sometime, won’t you?

The reveal of our HonestlyWTF headquarters brought to you in part by MyLowes!
