A flower isn’t just a flower. Vancouver artist Bobbie Burgers‘ paintings recontextualize flowers with her wonderfully emotional and provocative brush strokes and brilliant use of scale. I’m absolutely obsessed with their size, each pieces ranges from 5-7 feet, as they add to the drama and glamour!
Monocrafft 3.0
We can’t get enough of Dutch designer Merrel Westhoff‘s collection of delicate, minimalist jewelry. Each tiny little soldier, available in 14k gold or sterling silver, is inspired by ancient patterns, symbols and architecture. Her earrings are particularly unique, requiring the wearer to thread them through the ear in unconventional ways.
Alena Akhmadullina Resort 2016
Sadko was an explorer whose musical touch won over the heart of the Sea King and eventually brought him wealth and love. This Russian folk tale character was also the catalyst for Alena Akhmadullina‘s resort collection. The ocean is so beautifully interpreted with the sea’s foam formed by cashmere and fur, Katsushika Hokusai-like rip curls printed on silk and chiffon, and ocean waves outlined by meticulously stitched denim. And the quilted tops and coats mimicking the motion of waves? So subtle and oh so lovely.
Planchonella House
Set in Queensland’s tropical north, the Planchonella House embraces its rainforest surroundings. This award-winning home was a personal project for architect and builder Jesse Bennett, and his wife, interior designer Anne-Marie Campagnolo. The couple, who likes to call their aesthetic Tropical Bizzaro, poured their heart and soul into this dreamy home with it’s playful concrete lines, glass walls, custom built-ins, handcrafted timber fixtures and bespoke furniture.
Objects Without Meaning
There’s something about Alexandra Michelle‘s spring collection that is sending me packing for the desert. Maybe it’s the palm printed linen dresses, chambray peasant blouses, and beige marled knit sweaters . . . and then add bold, geometric brass jewelry and white, Moroccan inspired slippers and your midsummer wardrobe is complete.
