How many times have we reassured ourselves with little white lies? As a self described lover of typography and occasional abuser of empty promises, I adore this series of daily dishonesties by graphic designer and illustrator Lauren Hom.
From beanies to floppy hats to fur trappers, hats ruled the streets during fashion week earlier this month. The accessory was absolutely necessary in protecting against New York’s unrelenting elements (ahem, Nemo). So after eyeing Elisa Nalin‘s jeweled Paule Ka beanie, we thought we’d spare a beanie from our generous stockpile for another embellished hat DIY. After all, winter ain’t over yet!
This season on the Tibi runway, low ponytails were loosely tied and tucked into hoods and sweaters for that carefree, lived-in look. To recreate the style is as simple as protecting clean hair first with L’Oreal’s Smooth Intense Xtreme Straight Crème and then roughly blowdrying it for volume. Adding a few wavy curls through the midsection helps give it that extra volume. Then pull the hair into a low ponytail at the nape of your neck, secure it with a hair band, and wrap a section of hair around the band to cover it. Pull out a few pieces to loosen the look, spray with our favorite Elnett for hold, and voila, you’ve got an effortlessly chic ponytail . . . with very little effort. No sweat!
A whole lot of romance and glamour, a bit of baroque, a touch of prep, and a hint of punk – there was something for every girl at Stacey Bendet’s Alice + Olivia fall presentation. The mix and match variations were inspiring with textures like ruffles, leather, burned velvet, and lace and patterns like brocade, plaids, and florals. I can’t stop thinking about the dreamy floor length floral skirt paired with a simple navy turtleneck!
