Nostalgia came knocking on our door yesterday in the form of Ulyana Sergeenko‘s second couture collection. Envision a Russian Scarlett O’Hara walking out of some of our favorite childhood stories like The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, Little Red Riding Hood, and The Wizard of Oz – figuratively and literally (models walked out of a life sized fairy tale book) – and donning dramatically cinched waists, exposed damsel in distress shoulders, hand embroidered animal details, floor sweeping dresses, oversized straw hats, and apron topped burlap skirts. Collection after collection, Ulyana has us wishing we were living in the fantasy she’s so brilliantly imagined.
Skilled artist and photographer Nick Knight has recently launched a body of work in London, which took him nearly 10 years to develop. Taking large scale floral photography, inspired by 16th century still life paintings, Nick exposes the prints to heat and water during the printing process which results in the most unique and breathtaking hybrid of photography and painting.
After jewelry, hats are my favorite accessory. Straw, fedoras, caps, floppies, visors, cowboy, beanies, ushankas – you name it, I dig it. And just like jewelry, le chapeaux has the ability to relieve just about any wardrobe slump. This week, I’ll show you how to transform a simple floppy hat into something similar to Eugenia Kim‘s fabulous feather trimmed version in under 15 minutes. It’s that easy. Honestly.
Trained as a pattern cutter on London’s Savile Row, newcomer Alexander Lewis has launched his sophomore collection and honestly, it’s impressive. Shiny brocade mimicking birch tree bark, color-blocked knitwear and blouses, trousers resembling retro ski pants, and cowboy inspired booties were all inspired by Aspen’s golden age in the 70’s. Love. It. All.
