Paper Fashion x NYFW

Honestly, is there anything more dreamy than Katie Rodger‘s exquisite fashion illustrations? We are huge fans of her blog Paper Fashion, where she recently translated some of her favorite gowns seen on the runways at New York Fashion Week onto paper using watercolors, glitter and sequins. Check out more of her work here and if you’re not already following her on Instagram, I highly recommend that you do . . . it’s full of eye candy!

One, Two Step: FREDA SALVADOR

Banana Republic is celebrating its 35th anniversary this year. And in keeping with the San Francisco based company‘s pioneering nature, we are exploring the inspirational stories behind three Bay Area entrepreneurs – each who have built their businesses with an innovative spirit and a focus on impeccable design. First up are the ladies behind one of our favorite artisan footwear labels FRĒDA SALVADOR.

Who is FRĒDA SALVADOR: FRĒDA SALVADOR was founded by us, Cristina Palomo Nelson and Megan Papay, in August of 2011. Our first collection debuted Fall 2012.  We met while designing for another Bay Area footwear company – we had awesome design chemistry so we decided we wanted to do our own thing.

Tory Burch Spring 2014

Inspired by Romy Schneider’s character in La PiscineTory Burch mixed the easy glamour of the French Riviera in the late 1960s with elements from her own garden in Southampton. The retro flora and hedgerow prints in crisp whites and greens as fresh as cut grass were perfect for spring. The cropped trousers and tailored suiting in shimmery silver silk were elegant and chic. And belt bags and leather trellis basket totes?! So sweet.

Karen Walker Spring 2014

Karen Walker looked to the contrasting nature of traditional Eastern culture with modern utility for her spring collection titled “Utopia.” Gauzy dhoti pants and silk tunics in cream, ochre, and sun-bleached pink referenced the East – more specifically India – while Western practicality came in the form of trench coats, anoraks, and knitwear. And to add her accessory credentials, Karen is introducing handbags with Benah and patent-leather sneakers with BePositive. Wearable clothing in wonderfully eclectic color combinations. As usual, we’re fans.
