Nordic Dwellings

Swedish interior designer Marie Olsson Nylander gutted a 1970s townhouse, tore out the floors, knocked down the walls, opened up the ceilings and transformed it into the most eclectically beautiful and radiant home. I love the contrast of all the bright and rustic found objects against the white walls and floors. Would you ever consider painting your floors white?

I love white-washed wood, especially like this, ceilings and floors both! Yes, I would consider painting my floors white – in my fantasy house. In reality, no way. How could I possibly keep it clean?

  8. Gorgeous house! I love white floors, but I imagine they would get so dirty.

Oh, geez. As much as I love the looks of this, I just know it would not stay that clean for very long. My fiance seems to drag his boy dirt with him everywhere. I may as well quit my job and follow him around with a mop 24/7.

Jeez this place is amazing, oh how I’d love to spend a holiday there! I’m loving the quirky furniture against the sparsity of the architecture. I think the white floors work perfectly. Personally I’ve always loved the look of scuffed white floorboards, though I’m too messy I could never commit!

incredible. I personally wouldn’t want to have to wash the darn things and repaint so often, but if I lived above the artic circle, yeah, I’d probably paint the whole interior white, too – I think, come winter, you need the light where you can get it!

  20. Oh this is gorgeous. I’m hot off of a refinishing-in-ebony-stain-and-making-it-look-weathered-kick but her black desk is making me seriously reconsider my recent vow to not stain the massive, somewhat ugly bureau. It holds my TV and all the stuff I like to hide in its hugely functional drawers. Very functional, but likely not worth the huge time investment? Bulky, ungraceful shape. But I dunno. Because now this post is making me swing toward Do. Thanks for nothing, Erica. In a few weeks I’ll again be in my apartment on view to the people across the street with dental mask and scuba mask all over my face, covered in sanded wood, periodically wielding the long reach of a vacuum cleaner.

  23. I’ve always told myself that, when I get a house, it HAS to have a spiral staircase.

  26. Starting with an all-white canvas is such a clever idea as the furniture serves as highlights to the design. Absolutely stunning! I cannot believe I missed this post from you guys- one of my favourites!
