Honestly WTF

Spring Festival

Today is Chinese New Year and a seemingly fitting occasion for this gorgeous editorial by Steven Meisel to resurface. It’s hard to believe that it was shot almost 11 years ago as it feels so current with the colors, floral prints, head wraps and long lengths. Happy Year of the Rabbit!

Wow, what a great editorial! Love the pattern of light and shadow…
I didn’t even realise it’s the year of the Rabbit again, although I’m born a Rabbit too =)

I wish you had posted something more fitting for CNY than an appropriative photoshoot featuring white models, and taken by a white photographer. This photoshoot uses Asia and Asian props as a setting, nothing more. I have unsubscribed from your feed.

Connie, I want to clarify that our intentions were not for these images to embody or represent Chinese New Year. They are simply beautiful images and an editorial that we would have posted regardless of the holiday.

It’s actually Lunar New Years. Many Asian countries celebrate today as the start of the new year, not just China.

Too bad Connie took this post personally… I for one think it’s beautifully done! The colors, patterns, and textures are exquisite. Happy Lunar New Year!!
