DIY Gold Dipped Feathers

I recently spotted a set of beautiful gold dipped feathers that I thought were far overpriced – especially for something that is ridiculously easy to make with a can of trusty spray paint. These gilded feathers are the perfect holiday accessory. Hang them from your Christmas tree, string them onto a garland, use one as a present topper or display them in a vase!

You’ll need:

Start by laying the feathers flat in a large box or piece of cardboard. Cut out strips of paper that are wider than the feathers and with an angled end. Tape the pieces of paper down to the cardboard, exposing just the tips of the feathers.

Brush the feathers so that the barbs are all in the same direction and flat. Spray the feathers with 2 coats of gold paint outdoors and allow to dry completely.

When the paint has dried, place a drop of E6000 to the quill of the feather and attach the gold end caps. Or you can always skip the end cap part and use these as present toppers.

Your feather ornaments are ready to string on a piece of twine as a garland.

Or hang on your Christmas tree!
