Women Together

The holiday season has snuck up on us once again, but this year it’s come during an emotional and volatile point in time where it feels as though some of our nation’s most fundamental liberties are being challenged. If there’s anything I’ve taken away from the recent political, cultural and environmental events, it is that complacency is silence. And as a woman, a mother and a daughter of immigrants, silence can be detrimental. Now, more than ever, is the time to unite, learn, educate, participate and donate time and money to causes that will fight to protect us and the equal rights that make this country so beautiful. As I’m personally trying to navigate how to better engage in issues and how I can stand to make even the smallest difference within my community, it doesn’t mean that I (or you!) shouldn’t continue take delight in the holidays. Especially when some of my favorite female designers have started initiatives to bring awareness and to give back to impactful organizations. Designers of #WomenTogether, which includes Ulla Johnson, Ace & Jig, and Rachel Comey, are giving 5% to Planned Parenthood from November 25 and November 28. 15% of all Bliss and Mischief proceeds will go towards an organization of your choice, which includes Standing Rock Sioux and the Human Rights Campaign. And Patagonia is continuing their yearly tradition of giving 100% of proceeds, during Black Friday, to underfunded grassroots organizations, working in local communities to protect our air, water and soil for future generations. Whether you shop or not, let’s all pay it forward . . .

Rachel Comey: A portion of sales will be donated to the Trevor Project, the leading organization providing crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to LGBTQ youth. 5% to Planned Parenthood from November 25 and November 28

I’d love to participate, especially buying the “l” shaped earrings, but I can’t get jiggy with a contribution to Planned Parenthood. If you truly knew the reason why the company was originally founded and created, you wouldn’t participate either. And, as a minority, I think you should definitely find out.

    Thank you most profoundly.
I am impressed and grateful that you did not let this pass. I feel a duty and urgency to support that I have never felt before. Not just for what I believe is right and sacred, but also for the protection of the environment and all the people in this country who need to know that they are not alone and that there are many people; who though they may be secure themselves: will be vigilent and fight for those who are not.
