Manitobah Mukluks Giveaway

Posted by on

Throughout history, Canada’s First People wore mukluks and moccasins to protect their feet while at the same time keeping them light to survive the elements of nature. Today Manitobah, founded by siblings of Aboriginal and European descent, is keeping the tradition alive by creating authentic, handmade, and functional footwear. Not only is the Canada-based company connecting their past with the present but a large part of their mission is to revive the arts by way of business-building partnerships with Aboriginal artists and elders. For the past couple of months, Lauren and I have been practically living in our beyond comfortable, shearling and leather mukluks. So in celebration of our newfound obsession, we’re partnering with Manitobah to give away a pair of their Gatherer Mukluks to one lucky reader. Simply leave a comment below, follow Manitobah on Twitter or like them on Facebook, and a winner will be selected at random on Monday, February 13th. (Sorry, limited to US & Canada residents only. Color selection subject to availability. Winner will be announced and contacted by email. Good luck! xx ***Contest is now closed. Congratulations to Naomi S.!

Aanii from Whitefish River First Nation, Ontario. Kudos to you and your siblings in starting your own business as young entrepreneurs in following our traditional teachings handed down to us by our grandparents, elders and ancestors. The last time I had mukluks was when I was a little girl…they were white and furry and I wore them a lot until I wore them out. As Anishinaabek Kwe we need to take care of our feet as we need to stand tall and keepers of the waters that have been polluted by many. :)

    Miigwetch,

What an amazing contest and what an amazing product. I came across Manitobah recently and ordered the child sized moccasins. When they arrived I was blown away by the quality of construction and materials. What makes this better is how my purchase supports a company with a commitment to its origins. My goal this year is to have each member of my family in Manitobah by the end of the year!

  161. Carleen    February 9, 2012

Beautiful! And kudos and love to our (Canada’s) First Nations people!

  162. Angela Miia Johnston    February 9, 2012

  163. Janice Tadgell    February 9, 2012

Every year at christmas i try to get myself to buy a pair…
but my inner mature self whispers ‘pay the bills’ :)
i should really listen to the lil devil on my shoulder and break down and buy them.
they are perfect all season and the ones pictured are the ones i would do ANYTHING for
we should be making THESE international… Australians should be wanting to wear canadian mukluks, not Canadians wearing something that is not appropriate for our climates, who likes salt stains on all the boots?!

    p.l.e.a.s.e.
    :)

So usually I hate the whole I’m-a-rich-hot-white-chick-playing-Indian thing, but these are not only a.) legit Native-made (what up!) but they’re also, b.) hella gorg.

It IS possible to rock the Native look while supporting/respecting the tribe who crafts the item. Just buy these instead of decking yrself the fuck out in “tribal” stuff from F21 and Urban Outfitters, mmkay? <3

  219. Carlen    February 9, 2012

I’ve been looking for some great new boots, and these definitely fit the bill. And you can’t I wrong with mustard yellow! I’d love a pair!

  256. Amber G    February 9, 2012

These are absolutely gorgeous. I used to have a pair as a child and just loved them. It was my favorite word oddly enough haha I love how the details bring in a modern flair to Mukluks :) Thanks for sharing.

  257. Janell Dautel    February 9, 2012

Wow!! What an amazing campaign that highlights our first peoples of Canada!! As a northern aboriginal woman, I love these amazing mukluks! I grew up in northern Canada and my granny used to make me mukluks from caribou and/or moose hide with canvas and use beaver or rabbit fur on the trims. I used to get teased, and the complaints were usually about the strong hide smell. I still wore my “stinky” mukluks with pride. I loved that my granny made them with her delicate hands, I loved the smell of the hide (mostly due to the fact that the smell reminded me of the warmth of home and family), and most importantly I loved how warm and comfortable they were! Thank you for being a part of a business that highlights the aboriginal traditional economy!!

  258. Kat    February 9, 2012

Thanks for offering this contest. I have a lot of respect for your company; particularly that you haven’t sold out by having your mukluks manufactured oversees to save you money. It is vital to keep the First Nations and Native Americans heritage and cultures alive. By keeping your old ways of handmaking mukluks in Canada; you honor yourself, your ancestors and the people who buy your products. Thank you.

dear: manitoba mukluks ive been wanting a pair od ur works of art for some time but thier so super expensive. jus when i almost have enough saved up something happens and i have to spend my saving on something my son needs or my car. you see im a single mother and i dont get help from my sons father.so what ever i do get saved up ends up going somewhere else, i love your brand soo much and dream about getting a pair since all my friends have mukluks its kinda of bitter sweet. im aboriginal but wasnt raised with my native family, and i like to try and keep my culture, i think its just awesum how ur company is merging canadas past with the present making contemperay clothing line, to celebrate canadas aboriginal culture as well as promot jobs with elders and native craftsmen. i hope that i win the contest but if not ill continue to keep saving money,,one day i will own a pair of manitoba mukluks and ill walk in them proudly and rock them all the time, p.s im a size 8 lol keep doing a great job sincerly gabrielle horseman

Híŋhaŋni wašté! I am born of the Navajo, Akoma Pueblo, and Sioux Nations, my main bloodline is of the Oglala Lakota Oyate. Growing up with many of my family members as artists and being blessed to have experienced the traditional ways of my people I have seen firsthand their true struggles and hardships as craftsmen/women in today’s society. Through which I have gained a strong appreciation for the crafts and skills of all our First Nations Artists. Your company in particular has touched me since I first came across your website a few years ago. Just the fact that you educate the consumer about the products’ culture and THE ACTUAL ARTIST themselves is truly uplifting! To see our northern brothers and sisters persevering while staying true to ancestry and traditional roots is inspirational to say the least. I am proud to support Manitoba Mukluks in knowing that it’s a company that puts their people FIRST rather than the dollar. Thank you.
