DIY Felt Acorns

Posted by on

Ever since I experimented with needle felting earlier this year, I’ve been fascinated with the plethora of potential DIYs associated with this age-old technique. After spotting felted acorns at an adorable boutique in Carmel, I quickly discovered I couldn’t achieve the look with a felting needle (Honestly, fail!) Instead it required an easier method called wet felting which simply involves some hot, soapy water. Suffice to say, I’m obsessed and can’t wait to make a bevy of these felted knickknacks!

You’ll need:

  • wool roving
  • acorn caps
  • thread
  • drill
  • hot glue gun
  • dishwashing soap
  • 2 bowls

We’ve been dying to collaborate on a DIY with Jessie Randall, designer and creative director of Loeffler Randall, after discovering her extraordinary flair for crafting. So when chatting about the need for decent boot stuffers over breakfast in New York City, a lightbulb went off and Jessie conceptualized the perfect tutorial just for HonestlyWTF! We can finally keep all those boots standing tall and tidy in our closets. These delightful boot stuffers are actually quite simple to assemble and would make a fantastic holiday gift for that boot-loving buddy.

DIY Surprise Balls

Posted by on

I’ll never forget the first time I unraveled my first surprise ball. My smile only got bigger and bigger as a glorious pile of brightly colored paper started to form after more and more wonderfully trivial prizes were revealed. By the end, I was left wanting more. So obviously, I had to figure out how to make my own so that I could share the same joy with my friends. Hope you enjoy making these as much as I did!

DIY Spiced Nuts

Posted by on

It’s Thanksgiving morning and the first thing I did was whip up one of my favorite holiday recipes . . . spiced nuts. I can’t quite remember where I first found the recipe but I make them year after year as they are insanely easy, utterly delicious, and the perfect compliment to those pre-dinner cocktails. I promise you’ll love them – you might even have the ingredients and enough time to make them today! xx

You’ll need:

  • 1 lb mixed nuts
  • 3 tablespoons of fresh rosemary
  • 1 teaspoon of cayenne
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ground nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons dark brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoons kosher salt
  • 3 tablespoons of unsalted butter

DIY Chandelier Crystal Clutch

Posted by on

I deeply regret missing out on scoring Mawi‘s new glitter clutches on Moda Operandi last month . . . honestly, DOH! Any of the sparkly numbers would have been the perfect compliment to many holiday ensembles. Determined to recreate it, I found some brilliantly colored chandelier crystals that would do just the trick. Add some glitter, Mod Podge, a zip pouch and voila, you’re ready to celebrate 2012 in your new glitter clutch!

DIY Wax Seal

Posted by on

Though we live in an age where life seems unfathomable without the existence of email (or internet – GASP), you must admit finding a letter or invite in your mailbox is always a momentous and welcoming occasion. Familiar with that sweet feeling that comes along with receiving a handwritten note, I’m making an early 2013 resolution to send more thank you’s, miss you’s, and just because’s through the postal service. I’ve also recently perfected the art of wax seals as part of this newfound effort! It’s all about the little details, right?
