I immediately did a double take after spotting this shirt with baubles stitched down the “placket,” which I just recently learned is the term used to describe the middle section of a button down shirt. Honestly? Placket?! In any case, it’s an easy DIY and the most brilliant way to add a bit of texture and pizazz to any shirt!
You’ll need:
- a button down shirt
- a mix of metal, plastic or glass beads
- a needle fine enough to fit through the beads
- thread

Did you know that chainmail was the earliest form of metal armor and was invented as early as 300BC by the ancient Celts? Used as protective armor for centuries by multiple cultures, it’s still being made today – often in the form of jewelry. It’s a method I was determined to teach myself years ago as a jewelry designer and I’m so excited to share the most simple chainmail necklace tutorial. Don’t let the process intimidate you, it’s actually quite easy! So grab your pliers and let’s get medieval . . .
You’ll need:
- 2 pairs of flat nose pliers
- 350 brass or silver 8mm jump rings (for a 26″ necklace)

Color + block = the 2 words in fashion most commonly used this season. It was just a matter of time before we’d incorporate this much loved trend into a DIY. And thanks to Tommy Ton‘s color blocked pants, spotted at New York Fashion Week, we were finally inspired to give an old pair of chinos a much needed makeover!
You’ll need:
- a pair of old boyfriend jeans or chinos
- 4 oz fabric or craft paint (we used Martha Stewart Satin Craft Paint in Indigo)
- flat paintbrush
- small plastic tray
- masking tape

We almost lost our marbles when we first spotted these scalloped white Louis Vuitton collars on the runway. And so when Lucky Magazine asked us to create a tutorial for their November issue, DIYing Peter Pan collars was an absolute no-brainer. Crisp, feminine, and perfect for fall, who would have thought Neverland could look so chic?
You’ll need:
- 2 scalloped edged collar pieces cut from white felt or rubber flannel (pattern downloadable here)
- a single hole punch or leather rotary hole punch
- 1 yard of white ribbon
- a needle and thread
- hot glue gun

We’ve recently teamed up with our lovely friends at Kanon & Milk Studios to DIY our very own signature cocktail. With a handful of our favorite fresh and organic ingredients from New York City’s Greenmarket and some much needed guidance from Apoteke‘s head mixologist, we managed to whip up one sweet and original libation that will make you smile and say: holy habañero! Inspired by a shoot styled by Mandy of Oracle Fox where gold leaf was applied in the form of makeup and jewelry, I immediately had to try it myself. It’s an instantaneous and temporary solution for a lack of bling. Plus, it looks super fly! This technique may even come in handy this Halloween season when you decide you’ll want to dress up as a Fendi-bot . . . or C-3P0.
You’ll need:
- one sheet of imitation gold leaf
- spirit gum or non toxic liquid adhesive
- a foam brush
