Falling Whistles

Posted by on

A whistle around the neck is the symbol for Falling Whistles, a nonprofit campaign for peace and aid for children in the war-torn Democratic Republic of Congo. During the past 10 years, roughly 6 million people have died, and nearly 1,500 people continue to lose their lives daily. Many of those lives are young boys, too small to carry guns; instead, they carry whistles and are on the front lines of war. Sean Carasso started Falling Whistles to raise money for child rehabilitation programs and advocacy through the sale of whistle pendants. Be a whistleblower for peace and get your whistles here.

I want a peineta. I’m not sure where I’d ever get the chance to wear one but I have always swooned over them. Peinetas are large decorative combs usually worn by Spanish women under a mantilla, or lace head covering. It dates back to the 18th century in Spain and is now used today primarily during special occasions like weddings, bullfights, processions and traditional performances of flamenco music. Traditional and so beautiful…

Yuketen

I’ve recently come across Yuketen, an outstanding American based luggage and footwear company. Designer Yuki Matsuda pays homage to the American crafts and traditions by treasure hunting for outstanding examples of footwear and luggage in remote locales spread out across the rolling Appalachians to the high Sierras. And thanks to him, there is yet another moccasin I need in my life.

The early bird caught the worm. The worm being this sold out gorgeous black lace floral print dress at Pixie Market and the early bird not being me. What hurts even more is that it was only $94. Thankfully, there are many other pretty dresses to pick from here. But I will still lament missing out on this treasure . . . don’t you hate it when that happens?

Carine Roitfeld has taken the grandfather out of the pocket watch, making it modern and chic in this editorial for Vogue Paris. I would love to hang one from my handbag. Would you wear a pocket watch?
