Was there a relationship in history as dramatic and emotional as the one between Queen Elizabeth and Mary Queen of Scots? Not according to Karl Lagerfeld, who was inspired by the ill-fated Queen of Scotland when creating his pre-fall collection for Chanel. Drop-waisted kilt-pleated coats, tartan and tweed jackets, and Elizabethan ruffled necklines came down the runway in the courtyard of Linlithgow Palace in Scotland. Coco Chanel actually had close ties to Scotland and learned about tweed and knitwear from Barrie Knitwear, which recently was acquired by Chanel. Bravo, Karl, on another utterly amazing spectacle!
Inspired by vintage Harley Davidsons and Danny Lyon’s book Bikeriders, Phillip Lim inserted touches of rebellion and free spirited elegance into his pre-fall collection. Lim’s fall teaser, including leather tops and pants, zipper details, thigh high leather boots, side-zip sweatshirts in spongy techno-jersey, and a recurring phoenix motif, had us excited to see more come February.
We’re majorly crushing on Maje these days. I mean, who cares about the cold when you get to don any of these ensembles? Season after season, Maje presents classic pieces, like wool skirts, silk dresses, and leather coats, that last and help build your wardrobe – and that’s what we love most about our favorite Parisian chic label!
Wildfox latest resort collection, Granny’s Closet, is a tribute to grandma with the inclusion of cats, florals, visors, tennis, gardening, and big bottle cap sunnies. Perfectly mismatched and super cute.
In lieu of traditional millinery blocks, UK based designer Katharine Wallinger once improvised making hats and fascinators using a kitchen colander! She has continued the same method ever since, under her label Madrugar. I’d love to find a reason to rock any of these lovely headpieces.
Lauren and I just returned from Moscow Fashion Week, where we attended Kira Plastinina‘s spring showing for Lublu. Inspired by travels to South America, bold colors, striking motifs, and beaded details were incorporated into youthful yet sophisticated silhouettes. Fabric wrapped bangles, patterned backpacks, and floral headpieces added the perfect finishing touches and honestly had us itching to take them all back home with us. Stay tuned next week as we’ll share the rest of our unforgettable trip to Kira‘s hometown of Moscow!
