As an avid lamp collector, I about died when I saw these carved lamps made from dried gourds by Calabarte. Gourds from Senegal are meticulously hand drilled, allowing light to shine through the fine patterns. Absolutely stunning.
Artist Alberto Sevesto has followed up his beautiful Disastro Ecologico series with another set of amazing high speed photographs. This time around a Lego surfer is catching wicked blue ink waves! Super cool, dude.
High Wheel was a video project by Maider Lopez where he digitally removed the main structure of a ferris wheel, making the passenger cars float weightlessly in the air. It’s honestly straight out of Mary Poppins! Love.
Remember Florentijn Hofman‘s Fat Monkey sculpture made of 10,000 flip flops? Well, the Rotterdam-based artist is at it again with his newest large-scale sculpture: an adorable, 13 meter high yellow rabbit in Örebro, Sweden. Constructed out of locally-manufactured shingles, the temporary sculpture was built for the OpenArt biennale and meant to challenge people’s perceptions towards public space.
Artist Wayne White, who once worked as a set designer on Pee-wee’s Playhouse and as an art director of a Smashing Pumpkins music video, paints cheeky phrases on top of kitschy traditional landscape portraits. I’m especially drawn to his work because of its humor and quirkiness – but mostly because I personally love to collect these same type of paintings and frames from thrift stores. So brilliant!
