South African based painter Philip Barlow is fascinated by light and it’s effect on different surfaces. Barlow captures the soft focus effect perfectly, in these oil paintings of The Sea, by hinting at shapes and forms and leaving them hazy, blurry, and ambiguous.

Oh wow, I love it! You know when you are lying in the sun on the beach with your eyes closed, then you open them & it takes a minute for your eyes to adjust to the light? That’s what his work reminds me of– very clever!

Love this. It is just how the beach looks when you peer out of sleepy eyes due to a nice sun-induced nap in the sand.
